CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland College Men's Basketball (4-3) upset No. 19 Bryant & Stratton College (WI) (4-2) by the final score of 94-57.
Kevin Bishop II (19 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals) led all players in both scoring and rebounds.
Early in the game, the visiting Bobcats jumped out to a 12-7 lead. Parkland then went on a 12-0 run, going up 19-12. Bryant & Stratton closed to within two, 19-17, but the Cobras ended the half on a 13-4 run, heading to the locker room with a 32-21 lead.
Parkland turned things up a notch in the second half, taking a 23-point lead 5 minutes into the period, and expanding it to 32 with ten minutes remaining. The Bobcats had no answers for the explosive Cobras offense, which sank eight 3-pointers after the break, and fell behind another 5 points in the final ten minutes.
In addition to Bishop,
Jordan Burge (17 points, 4 rebounds) and
Savon Wykle (10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks) scored in double digits, while
Sean Ealy (8 points, 2 steals) and
Josh Rivers (7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals) combined with Bishop for 6 of the Cobras' 7 steals.
Wykle,
Kamari Kenemore (7 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), and
Kelvin Swims Jr. (5 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) combined for 11 of Parkland's 17 assists.
Up next, Parkland travels to Quincy, Ill., to take on No. 18 John Wood CC on Sunday, February 14. This will be the Cobras' first Mid-West Athletic Conference game. Tip-off is scheduled at 3:00 pm.
