QUINCY, Ill. – Parkland College Men's Basketball (4-4, 0-1) faced its second ranked opponent in a period of four days, this time relinquishing a 2nd half lead and falling, on the road, to No. 18 John Wood CC (6-4, 1-0) by the final score of 81-87.
The Cobras started strong, building a lead of 16 points with 9:55 showing on the 1st-half clock. The Blazers pushed back, cutting into the deficit by ten, and leaving a half-time score of 49-43.
John Wood kept the momentum throughout the second half, eventually taking a 10-point lead with 5:47 remaining in the game. Parkland, which shot 62% from the field in the first half, could do little to get any closer, as they shot only 34% in the second.
Kelvin Swims Jr. (25 points, 4 rebounds), who led all scorers, and
Josh Rivers (10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals) scored in double digits. Others contributing on the offensive end were
Jamil Hardaway (9 points, 2 rebounds),
Kevin Bishop II (7 points, 5 rebounds),
Deonte Douglas (7 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals), and
Jordan Burge (7 points, 4 rebounds).
Savon Wykle (5 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists) and Bishop II paced the Cobras in rebounding.
