CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland College Men's Basketball (5-4, 1-1 M-WAC) won its first conference game of the season, defeating Danville Area CC (1-4, 1-1) by the score of 89-58.
Each team put in some early baskets, and five minutes into the game the score was 9-8. The Cobras then when on a 10-2 run, leaving the score 19-10 midway through the first half. The Jaguars got to within 5 points at the 5:00 mark, but Parkland ended the half on a 10-3 run. The teams headed into the break with the score 36-24.
In the second half, the Cobras systematically increased the lead to 16 points at the 15:00 mark, 22 points midway through the half, and 28 points with 5 minutes remaining. Parkland then outscored Danville Area, 18-15, in the final stretch.
The Cobras shot 58% from the field, with
Sean Ealy (22 points, 6 assists, 2 steals),
Kelvin Swims Jr. (14 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block),
Kevin Bishop II (12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals),
Savon Wykle (12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks), and
Jamil Hardaway (11 points, 5 rebounds) each scoring in double-digits.
Parkland edged the Jaguars in rebounding, 29-23, led by Bishop II, Hardaway,
Jourdan Weddle (7 points, 4 rebounds), and
Josh Rivers (4 points, 4 rebounds).
Up next, the Cobras travel to Springfield, Ill., to take on Lincoln Land CC on Sunday, February 21. Tip-off is scheduled at 3:00 pm.
