No. 1 Cobras Defeat Vincennes and No. 14 Lincoln Land

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 1 Parkland College Volleyball (14-0) notched two, 3-0, non-conference wins in matches against Vincennes University and No. 14 Lincoln Land CC. The Trailblazers (9-5) and the Loggers (9-3) were in Champaign competing in Parkland Tri #2.
 
Up next, the Cobras host Parkland Tri #3 on Sunday, February 28. The 3-team tournament features non-conference matches with Kankakee CC at 1:00 pm and Frontier CC at 5:00 pm.
 
No. 1 Parkland- 3, Vincennes- 0  (25-18, 25-15, 25-21)
 
Summerlyn Smith (25 assists, 13 digs) produced a double-double with assists and digs, as her impressive all-around performance also featured 5 blocks and 3 kills. Her assists were utilized most effectively by Arika Richardson (12 kills, 3 blocks, 3 digs) and Halle Everett (9 kills, 7 digs, 2 aces) who led the Cobras in kills.
 
On the defensive side, Brittney Litton (17 digs) and Kayla Brandon (16 digs, 2 aces) anchored the back line, combining with Smith for 46 digs. At the net, Katie Kaiser (7 blocks, 2 kills), Jayden Sortor (5 blocks), and Smith helped accumulate 12 team blocks.
 
Everett and Brandon each had a pair of service aces, combining for 4 of Parkland's 5.

Halle Everett (12 kills, 13 digs, 4 blocks, 2 aces) led the Cobras in kills and was second in digs, earning her fifth double-double of the season. Brittney Litton (20 digs) was the leader in digs, with additional strong support from Kayla Brandon (12 digs, 4 aces) and Isabella Classen (9 digs, 2 aces).
 
Katie Kaiser (11 blocks, 4 kills) was dominate at the net, leading Parkland in blocks. She, Everett, Arika Richardson (5 kills, 4 blocks, 2 digs), and Jayden Sortor (7 kills, 3 blocks) contributed to a total of 14 team blocks.
 
Brandon served up 4 aces, while Everett, Classen, and Reilly Swierbut (2 aces) each had a pair.
 
Summerlyn Smith (30 assists, 6 digs, 3 blocks) was once again key in setting up the offense.
