DANVILLE, Ill. – Parkland College Men's Basketball (9-5, 4-2) won its fourth conference game, defeating Danville Area CC (2-9, 2-5) by the final score of 83-61.
The Jaguars put Parkland in a small hole early in the game, taking a 10-4 lead. The Cobras then scored 11 straight points and found themselves on top, 15-10. DACC halted the run, but Parkland's offense exploded, going on another big run and outscoring the Jaguars, 22-9, in a 10-minute stretch. At the half, the Cobras were up, 48-25.
During the first five minutes out of the break, the Jaguars outscored Parkland, 14-7, but, by midway through the period, the Cobras had essentially matched the run and brought the lead back to twenty-two, at 69-47. In the final ten minutes, the teams played evenly, with each scoring 14 points to maintain the margin.
Parkland enjoyed a very balanced night, both offensively and on the boards. Five Cobras scored in double figures, led by
Deonte Douglas (14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) and
Savon Wykle (14 points, 2 rebounds), who combined for 28 points. The other three were
Jordan Burge (11 points, 4 rebounds),
Josh Rivers (10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists), and
Kelvin Swims (10 points, 3 rebounds).
Douglas, Rivers, and
Kamari Kenemore (7 points, 3 assists) combined for 10 of Parkland's 16 assists.
Parkland out-shot DACC, 52% to 42%, while the Cougars out-rebounded the Cobras, 40-31.
In the lane, five Cobras had four rebounds. That group consisted of Douglas, Burge, Rivers,
Kevin Bishop II (8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks) and
Jamil Hardaway (3 points, 4 rebounds).
