CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 6 Parkland College Baseball (6-3) swept two games from the Marian University (Ind.) JV team on Sunday afternoon. In game one, a big second inning propelled the Cobras to an 11-1 win. In game two, Cobras pitchers combined for a shutout, while the offense put 9 runs on the board.
Up next, the Cobras travel to Bloomington, Ill., to take on the Illinois Wesleyan JV squad on Wednesday, March 17, at 3:00 pm.
Game 1: Parkland- 11, Marian JV- 1 (5 innings)
The Cobras exploded for 7 runs in the second inning, sparked by a
Tyler Grigalis 3-run double and followed by a second run-producing double from
Hogan McIntosh (2 RBI).
Austin Biehl (2 H, 2 RBI) and
Nick Gregory each had a pair of hits, and
Cole Evans (2 RBI) and
David Ascencio (1 RBI) each knocked in additional runs.
Matt Parenteau (2-0) pitched 4 innings and earned the win for Parkland. He gave up 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 6.
Wil Stockman (2 H, 1 ER, 1 SO) threw for one inning out of the bullpen.
Game 2: Parkland- 9, Marian JV- 0 (7 innings)
The Cobras scored all the runs they needed in the first inning on a
Hogan McIntosh (3 H, 2-2B, 1-HR, 4 RBI) 2-run double. Additional runs came in every inning other than the third.
Parkland totaled 10 hits in the game, including a Cole Evens home run in the fifth inning.
McIntosh added a second double and and 6
th-inning home run.
Nick Gregory (2 H) was the only other Cobra with multiple hits.
Tyler Heidkamp (1-1) started on the mound, going 5 innings, allowing 1 walk, and striking out 9.
Jay Schueler (5 SO) pitched 2 innings in relief to preserve the shutout.
