MUSKEGON, Mich. – No. 9 Parkland College Baseball (8-3) picked up a pair of wins over Muskegon CC (8-5-1). The Cobras never trailed in an 8-1 game one victory, and, in game two, Parkland overcame a 4-run deficit to win by the final score of 10-5.
Up next, the Cobras are in Champaign, Ill., to host Carl Sandburg College for a single game on Tuesday, March 23. First pitch is scheduled at 1:00 pm.
Game 1: Parkland- 8, Muskegon- 1 (7 innings)
A 4-run second inning was all Parkland needed, but the Cobras added 3 in the fourth and 1 in the fifth en route to an 8-1 victory.
Hogan McIntosh (2-4, 1HR, 3 RBI) and
Austin Biehl (3-4, 1 HR) hit back-to-back home runs in the second to get things started. In the fourth,
Tyler Grigalis (2-4) and McIntosh each had RBI singles.
Nicholas Fazzari (2-4) also contributed with a pair of hits in the game.
The Cobras totaled 12 hits in the game, while the defense played error-free.
Paxton Thompson (3-0) went 6 innings on the mound and earned the win for Parkland. He gave up 4 hits and 1 earned run, striking out 9.
Ari Gordon (1 IP, 2 SO) provided relief from the bullpen.
Game 2: Parkland- 10, Muskegon- 5 (7 innings)
Parkland scored 1 in the first, on a
Cole Evans double, but after three, the host Jayhawks held a 5-1 advantage. Then, in the fourth,
Austin Biehl (3-4) and
Parker Mathieson (2-4) starting things off with back-to-back singles.
Nick Gregory (2-4, 2-2B, 3 RBI) then smacked a 2-run double, bringing the Cobras within 2.
Mathieson and
Jack Snider hit singles in the fifth, and a
Jimmy Rybarczyk double scored them both, sparking a 4-run inning that put Parkland back in front, 7-5. In the seventh, Rybarczyk (2-4, 1 HR, 5 RBI) hit a long ball, scoring 3 and providing the final margin.
Kyle Brown (2-0) pitched 6 innings for his second win. He gave up 2 earned runs, striking out 5.
Tristan Cazel pitched 1 inning in relief as Muskegon grounded out three times.
