CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 11 Parkland College Baseball (9-3) won its sixth in a row on Wednesday with a 9-3 victory over Carl Sandburg College (2-13) in a nine-inning game.
The Cobras scored 1 run in the bottom of the second, but the visiting Chargers matched it in the third. Parkland scored 1 more in its half of the third, taking a 2-1 lead, but Carl Sandburg tied it up again, 2-2, in the top of the fifth.
In the sixth, the Cobras finally broke away with 3 runs. The Chargers added one in the eighth inning to close within 2 runs, but Parkland plated 4 in the bottom half, taking a 9-3 lead to finish out the scoring.
Jimmy Rybarczyk (2-4, 2B, 3B, 4 RBI) led the Cobras at the plate, smacking a double and a triple and knocking in four.
Zyon Avery (1-1, 2 RBI) and
Nicholas Fazzari (1-2, 1-3B, 1 RBI) combined for an additional three RBIs.
Four additional Cobras chipped in one hit each, a quartet made up of
Cole Evans (1-2, 1 SB),
Hogan McIntosh (1-3),
David Ascencio (1-4), and
Nick Gregory (1-5, 1 SB), and Evans and Gregory each tacked on a stolen base.
The Cobras outhit the Chargers, 8-7, and had 2 fewer errors.
Danny Wizceb threw 4 innings and picked up the victory for Parkland. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits, striking out 3.
CJ Lewis (4 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 4 BB, 4 SO) started for the Cobras, and
Reece Rodabaugh (1 IP, 2 SO) came in from the bullpen to finish the game.
Up next, the Cobras travel to Belleville, Ill., to play a doubleheader with Southwestern Illinois College on Friday, March 26. First pitch is scheduled at 12:00 pm.
