BELLEVILLE, Ill. – No. 11 Parkland College Baseball (9-5) lost both games of a doubleheader, 3-7 and 2-3, to Southwestern Illinois College (11-9) on Friday afternoon.
Up next, the Cobras begin M-WAC play with a 4-game series against Lewis & Clark CC. Parkland travels to Godfrey, Ill., for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 28, and then hosts the Trailblazers for a doubleheader in Champaign, Ill., on Monday, March 29. The first pitch on both days is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
Game 1: No. 11 Parkland- 3, SWIC- 7 (7 innings)
A
Hogan McIntosh (1-4, HR) 2-run home run started the scoring for Parkland in the third inning, but SWIC quickly cut the lead in half, scoring one in the bottom half.
The Blue Storm added another in the fourth to tie the game and then, in the sixth, strung together three singles, a double, and a home run, taking a 7-2 lead.
The Cobras managed one final run in the top of the seventh but could not overcome the deficit.
Cole Evans (2-2) and
Austin Biehl (2-4) each had multiple hits for the Cobras as they outhit SWIC, 8-7.
Paxton Thompson (3-1) pitched 5 1/3 innings and took the loss for Parkland. He gave up 7 earned runs on 7 hits and 1 walk, striking out 6.
Ben Catrambone (2/3 IP, 1 SO) provided relief from the bullpen.
Game 2: No. 11 Parkland- 2, SWIC- 3 (7 innings)
After a scoreless first inning, Parkland put one on the board in the top of the second on a
Tyler Grigalis (1 H, 1 RBI) single. SWIC countered, however, with a 2-RBI single in the bottom half.
Down, 1-2, in the fourth, the Cobras tied the score when
Jackson Blemler (1 H, 1 RBI) singled. Again, the Blue Storm answered, tying the game at two and then plating the winning run on a Parkland error.
Neither team was able to score again through the seventh.
Each team had 4 hits in the game, with
Hogan McIntosh (2-3) recording 2 for Parkland. The Cobras hurt themselves with 2 costly errors.
Drew Switzer (2 IP, 2 ER, 2H, 1 SO) started on the mound for Parkland, while
Jay Schueler (0-1) took the loss. Schueler lasted two innings, giving up 1 unearned run on 1 hit and striking out 3.
Ari Gordon (1 H, 1 SO) pitched two innings in relief.
