CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –No. 6 Parkland College Women's Basketball (13-1, 7-1 M-WAC) pulled away from a 20-20 deadlock and posted a 71-42 conference win over John Wood CC (5-12, 3-6).
The visiting Blazers came ready to play, and after one quarter, it was all tied, 11-11. Midway through the second, it was still even, at 20-20, but the Cobras ended the half on a 10-4 run, taking a 30-24 lead to the locker room.
Parkland outscored John Wood, 17-10, in the third, extending the lead to 47-34. The margin grew to 29 points in the fourth as the Cobras did not let up.
Peyton Crowe (14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists) and
Bree Trimble (13 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists) combined for 27 points, leading the Cobras in scoring.
Mady Harper (10 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals) and
Naomi McDaniel (10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists) each scored in double digits, as Harper led the team in both assists and steals.
Elly Haberkorn (7 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists) led the Cobras to a 36-26 edge in rebounds.
Parkland shot 51% from the field and held John Wood to 26% for the game.
Up next, Parkland travels to Kankakee, Ill., for a non-conference game against Kankakee CC on Tuesday, March 16. Tip-off is scheduled at 5:00 pm.
