No. 5 Cobras Knock Off Kankakee

Score 32 in third quarter

KANKAKEE, Ill. –No. 5 Parkland College Women's Basketball (14-1) defeated Kankakee CC (7-6) in a nonconference contest by the final score of 82-60.
 
The Cobras were up by three, 15-12, at the end of the first quarter, and extended the lead to 34-22 by the half. Bree Trimble (18 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists), who led Parkland in scoring, had 13 first-half points.
 
Kankakee shifted from man-to-man defense to zone after the break, and the Cobras proceeded to shred it to the tune of 32 points in the third quarter, increasing the lead to 66-40. The Cavaliers regrouped in the fourth, but the deficit was too great to overcome.
 
Right behind Trimble, and also in double digits for scoring, Peyton Crowe came in with 13 points. Parkland had 19 assists on 30 baskets, led by Mady Harper (9 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists), Trimble, and Claire Wilhour (6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists).
 
The Cobras shot 50% from behind the arc, missing all 5 attempts in the first half and making all 5 in the second, and, overall, shot 53% from the field for the game.
 
Elly Haberkorn (4 points, 6 rebounds) and Naomi McDaniel (7 points, 5 rebounds) led the Cobras to a slight edge on the boards, 34-32. Shaelynn Bell (8 points, 4 rebounds) contributed in the lane with 2 blocks.
 
In addition to Trimble, Ariana Booker (8 points, 3 rebounds) and Rhiannon Skoog (7 points, 2 rebounds) helped lead the Parkland bench to a combined 37 points.
 
Up next, Parkland returns to Champaign, Ill., for a conference game against Spoon River College on Thursday, March 18. Tip-off is scheduled at 5:00 pm.
