No. 5 Cobras Cruise in Win Over Spoon River

Bell scores career-high

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –No. 5 Parkland College Women's Basketball (15-1, 8-1 M-WAC) maintained its second spot in the Mid-West Athletic Conference with a 73-43 win over Spoon River College (1-14, 1-8).
 
The Cobras raced out to a 21-9 advantage after one quarter and extended the lead to 36-17 at the break. The visiting Snappers could do little to slow Parkland down, as the lead increased to 58-30 after three and was then maintained through the fourth.
 
Shaelynn Bell (15 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals) scored a career-high, and Peyton Crowe (15 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists) match her in points, as the pair led the Cobras on offense. Naomi McDaniel (13 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists), who was strong on both ends, produced her fourth double-double of the season.
 
McDaniel, Crowe, and Bree Trimble (9 points, 6 rebounds) led the way as Parkland out-rebounded Spoon River, 43-25. Elly Haberkorn (4 rebounds, 2 blocks) and Kiersten Price-Wilson (4 rebounds, 2 assists) each chipped in 4.
 
Parkland limited the Snappers to just 27% shooting, forced 22 turnovers, and blocked 8 shots. Mady Harper had 6 of the Cobras' 17 assists.
 
Up next, the Cobras travel to East Peoria, Ill., for a top-5 rematch with No. 3 Illinois Central College on Sunday, March 21. The Cougars are atop the M-WAC conference and dealt the Parkland its only loss this season. Tip-off is scheduled at 1:00 pm.
