INA, Ill. – No. 6 Parkland College Baseball (3-2) went on the road and took a 9-12, nine-inning loss to Rend Lake College (3-1).
The Cobras initially struggled from the mound, giving up 5 first inning runs on 3 walks, 2 batters hit by a pitch, and one single. In the top of the second, Parkland got 4 runs back, highlighted by a
Nick Gregory single knocking in
Cole Jones and
Jack Snider. Rend Lake responded with 2 runs of its own, and the Warriors' 4-7 lead held through the third.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Cobras' pitching woes continued. Rend Lake added its final 5 runs in that frame on 4 singles and 4 more walks, extending its lead to 12-4.
Parkland added 1 run in the fifth when
Nicholas Fazzari (2 H) belted an RBI single, and then rallied for more in the eighth. In that frame, the Cobras utilized 3 walks, 1 hit by pitch, and 2 singles to plate 4, reducing the deficit to 3 runs. Parkland threatened once again in the final frame but was unable to manufacture any runs.
Fazzari and
David Ascencio (2 H) were the only Cobras with multiple hits on the day. Parkland out-hit Rend Lake, 9-8, but also accumulated 4 errors.
Rigel Verciglio (0-1) started on the mound pitching 2 innings and taking the loss. He gave up 5 earned runs on 2 hits, walked 4, and struck out 1.

CJ Lewis (3 IP, 0 R, 3 SO), and
Brennan Dolwick (2 IP, 0 R, 3 SO) came in to work out of the bullpen.
