CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland College Softball (8-1) swept a doubleheader with Morton College (0-2) in its first home games of the season.
In game one, the Cobras offense exploded in the fourth inning, scoring 16 runs en route to a 28-0 victory. In game two, the visiting Panthers scored in the second and fourth innings, but Parkland's offense continued to churn toward 15-2 win.
Up next, the Cobras travel to Park Hills, Mo., to play a doubleheader against Mineral Area College on Wednesday, March 10. Game times are 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
Game 1: Parkland 28, Morton 0 (5 innings)
The Cobras led, 2-0, after one inning, thanks in part to an
Anna Walker (3-3, 3 RBI, 1 HR) 2-run home run. Parkland then plated 6 more in the second, highlighted by a
Reagan Cheely (1-2, 2 RBI, 1 HR) 2-run bomb. An Isable Shafer (2-2, $ RBI, 1 HR) 2-run dinger sparked a 4-run third, putting the Cobras up, 12-0.
In the fourth inning, Parkland exploded for 16 runs on 2 singles, 2 doubles, and 2 home runs.
Summer Johnson (4-5, 7 RBI, 1 HR) hit for 2 doubles, 1 triple, and 1 grand slam, driving in 7 runs in five plate appearances.
Emily Senjan (2-2, 3 RBI),
Lizzy Davis (2-2),
Aynsleigh DeFries (2-3), and
Taylor Dugger (2-4) each had a pair of hits.
Casy Mandrell (1-2, 4 RBI),
Madison Vogel (1-2, 1 RBI), and
Ashley Lynch (1-3, 3 RBI) each hit one of the Cobras' 7 home runs.
Josie Birch (1-0) earned her first win for Parkland, shutting out the Panthers on 2 hits over five innings while striking out 5. She was backed up by a Cobras defense that committed no errors.

In the nightcap, eleven Cobras had 1 hit.

Anna Walker launched a 2-run homer in the third inning.
Emily Senjan (1-1) picked up her first win of the season for Parkland. She surrendered one run on one hit over three innings, striking out one and walking one.
Reagan Cheely (0-0) threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
