No. 15 Cobras Split With DACC

Four-game series concludes tomorrow

DANVILLE, Ill. – No. 15 Parkland College Baseball (13-7, 4-2 MWAC) won game one, 12-0, and then took a loss, 6-9, to Danville Area CC (12-3, 8-2) in conference action on Friday.
 
Up next, the Cobras return to Champaign, Ill., to continue the 4-game series with Danville Area CC, playing games 3 and 4 on Saturday, April 3. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
 
 
Game 1: No. 15 Parkland- 12,  Danville Area CC- 0  (5 innings) 
 
Cole Evans (3-4, 2B, 2-3B, 4 RBI) hit hard right out of the box, knocking a run-scoring triple in the first inning, as Parkland took a 1-0 lead. In the second, Jimmy Rybarczyk tacked on a 2-run home run to extend the lead to 3-0.
 
The Cobras then erupted for nine runs in the third. Highlights included an Evans run-scoring triple, a Hogan McIntosh (3-4, HR, 4 RBI) 2-run dinger, a Nick Gregory (2-2, 2B, 2 RBI) run-scoring double, and, in his second appearance that inning, an Evans 2-run double.
 
There was no scoring in the fourth or fifth innings.
 
Paxton Thompson (4-1) picked up the shut-out win for Parkland. He threw for all five innings, allowing 1 hit and 3 walks while striking out 8.
 
 
Game 2: No. 15 Parkland- 6,  Danville Area CC- 9  (7 innings) 
 
Parkland scored three runs in the first, sparked by David Ascencio and Cole Evans singles and then a run-producing single by Zyon Avery (2-3, HR, 4 RBI).
 
DACC countered with two of its own in the first, then two more in the second, and three more in the third, highlighted by two home runs and producing a 3-7 deficit for the Cobras.
 
After scoreless fourth and fifth innings, Avery hit a 3-run dinger in the sixth to close to within one run, but the Jaguars posted two more in the bottom half to finish the scoring and secure the win.
 
Danny Wizceb (1-1) suffered the loss for the Cobras. He pitched two innings, giving up 5 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 1. Kyle Brown (3 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 SO) and Tristan Cazel (1 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 SO) provided relief from the bullpen.
