CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 15 Parkland College Baseball (15-7, 6-2 MWAC) swept the second half of a four-game series with Danville Area CC (12-5, 8-4), winning 10-6 and 7-0 to take the series, 3-1.
Up next, the Cobras travel to Moline, Ill., for a non-conference doubleheader with Black Hawk College on Thursday, April 8. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
Game 3: No. 15 Parkland- 10, Danville Area CC- 6 (7 innings)
Danville Area put up two runs in the second inning, but in the bottom half, a
Zyon Avery triple and a run-scoring single by
Nicholas Fazzari (2-3, 2B, RBI) led to two runs from Parkland, tying the score, 2-2.
In the Cobras half of the fourth, an
Austin Biehl single and a
Hogan McIntosh triple knocked in two runs, and Fazzari cracked a double and scored on an error. Parkland now led, 5-2. In the fifth, the Cobras increased the margin with five more runs, sparked by a
David Ascencio (2-3, RBI) run-scoring double.
The Jaguars rallied in the seventh, scoring four, but ultimately fell short.
Matt Parenteau (4-0) started on the mound for Parkland and picked up the win. He went six innings, allowing 2 earned runs, 2 hits, and 3 walks, while striking out 9.
Brennan Dolwick (0 IP, 1 H, 4 ER, 3 BB) and
Ben Catrambone (1 IP, 1 BB, 2 SO) provided relief out of the bullpen.
Game 4: No. 15 Parkland- 7, Danville Area CC- 0 (9 innings)
Parkland scored three in the first, benefitting from run-scoring doubles by
Hogan McIntosh (2-4, 2B, RBI) and
Tyler Grigalis. The 3-0 lead held up through three-and-a-half innings. In the bottom of the fourth, an
Austin Biehl 2-run double and a
Nick Gregory RBI single produced three more for the Cobras, extending the lead to 6-0.
In the fifth, Parkland added one for good measure, as
Jimmy Rybarczyk (2-3, 2-2B) helped the home team outhit the Jaguars, 8-5.
Tyler Heidkamp (2-1) pitched six innings and earned the win for Parkland. He allowed 5 hits while striking out 6.
Jay Schueler (3 IP, 6 SO) picked up a save, combining with Heidkamp for the shutout victory.
