No. 19 Cobras Sweep Doubleheader with Snappers

Dramatic walk-off home run in game one

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 19 Parkland College Baseball (17-7, 8-2 MWAC) took two from Spoon River College (15-5, 1-13), winning the first game, 10-9, with some late-game heroics, and cruising in the second game, 16-1.
 
Up next, the Cobras travel to Canton, Ill., for games 3 and 4 of the MWAC series with Spoon River on Sunday, April 11. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
 
 
Game 1: No. 19 Parkland- 10,  Spoon River- 9  (10 innings) 
 
Hogan McIntosh (3-5, HR, 3 RBI) hit a first inning home run that highlighted a 5-2 first-inning lead for Parkland. In the second, David Ascencio (1-4, HR, 2 RBI) hit a long ball that extended the Cobras' lead to 7-2.
 
In the fourth, Spoon River put up three, and Parkland added one, making the score 8-5. Each team added one more before the seventh inning, when the Snappers plated three to tie the game at 9. Neither team scored in the ninth, sending the game into extra innings.
 
In the top of the tenth, Spoon River was unable to manufacture any runs. In the bottom half, Jackson Blemler (1-3, HR, RBI) stepped up and launched a walk-off homer to end the game in dramatic fashion.
 
Kyle Brown (3-1) went two late innings and picked up the win for Parkland. He allowed one hit and struck out 3. Paxton Thompson (5 IP, 5 R, 3 ER, 9 Ks, 4 H, 4 BB, 9 K) started on the mound, while Tristan Cazel (1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 Ks, 2 BB) and Reece Rodabaugh (2 IP, 3R, 1 ER, 5 Ks, 3 H, 2 BB) provided relief from the bullpen.
 
 
Game 2: No. 19 Parkland- 16,  Spoon River- 1  (5 innings) 
 
Parkland was up, 9-0, before Spoon River scored their lone run in the third. The Cobras added 7 in the bottom half, and that was it for the shortened game.
 
Hogan McIntosh (3-3, 3-2B, 3 R) was perfect at the plate hitting a trio of doubles. Zyon Avery (2-3, HR, 3 RBI) hit a three-run home run in the second, and Brant Vanaman (2-3, HR, 3 RBI) matched it one inning later. Cole Evans (2-3, 2 RBI) added a pair of hits, knocking in two.
 
Parkland outhit the Snappers, 12-3.
 
Jay Schueler (2-1) earned the win, giving up one run (zero earned) on 3 hits while striking out 11.
