SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – No. 17 Parkland College Softball (43-6, 17-3 MWAC) split a doubleheader with Lincoln Land CC (23-14, 15-5), as the top-2 teams in the MWAC battled it out for the conference lead.
In game one, Lincoln Land walked off with the win in the seventh inning after trailing the entire game. In game two, Parkland trailed after five innings but scored the final four runs of the game to win by three.
Up next, the Cobras are in Champaign, Ill., for an MWAC doubleheader against Lewis & Clark CC on Tuesday, April 27. Game times are 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
Game 1: No. 17 Parkland- 2, Lincoln Land- 3 (7 innings)
Parkland scored one in the second inning when
Casy Mandrell (1-3, RBI) hit a single, driving home
Anna Walker (2-3, 2B, RBI). Then, in the third, Walker hit a double, knocking in
Isabel Shafer (2-3). The 2-run lead held through five innings.
In the sixth, Lincoln Land plated one, cutting the lead in half. Then, in the bottom of the seventh, the Loggers put two on with a single and an error. With one out, another Cobras error allowed two runs to score, ending the game.
Chayse Ramey (20-2) took the loss for Parkland. She allowed two hits and three runs (1 earned) over six and a third innings, striking out eight and giving up no walks.
Game 2: No. 17 Parkland- 5, Lincoln Land- 2 (7 innings)
Parkland scored one in the fourth when
Taylor Dugger (1-2, RBI) singled in
Lizzy Davis (1-2, RBI). Lincoln Land responded in the bottom half, taking a 2-1 lead.
In the sixth, the Cobras tied it up when Davis hit a sacrifice fly, scoring
Reagan Cheely, and then took a 3-2 lead on a second sacrifice fly from
Lauren Kavanagh (1-2, 2B, RBI), who knocked in
Anna Walker (1-3, 2B).
In the seventh,
Summer Johnson (2-4, HR, 2 RBI) finished the scoring, hitting a 2-run home run and crossing the plate just behind
Casy Mandrell (1-1).
Sydney Eichelberger (4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 SO, 1 BB) started the game for Parkland, while
Chayse Ramey (21-2) was credited with the victory. Ramey threw the final three innings, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out eight.
