CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland College Women's Soccer (0-3-1) battled to earn a 1-1 draw with (DI) Wabash Valley College (0-5-1) on very windy Tuesday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Wabash Valley opened the scoring with a goal in the 65th minute. Then, with only ten minutes remaining in the match, the Cobras were awarded a direct free kick.
Maria Jorquera launched it directly into the back of the net, leveling the score. Neither team could produce a goal as the clock ran out.
"I am very pleased with how the team played today," expressed Interim Head Coach
Dan Vogelsang. "The team showed true heart, and they kept playing to the end. It's not an easy task to play an entire 90-minute game with only one sub. I am so proud of our players as they have faced many season challenges head on and continue to work hard every day."
The Cobras produced 6 shots in the match, with 3 of them on frame. The visiting Warriors managed seven shots, but Parkland keeper
Michelle Miller made 6 saves to preserve the tie.
Up next, the Cobras travel to Centralia, Ill., to play No. 12 Kaskaskia College on Friday, April 30, at 4:00 pm.
