DANVILLE, Ill. – No. 14 Parkland College Softball (29-4, 6-2 MWAC) led throughout game one, winning 13-6, but an error-plagued second game led to a 4-12 MWAC loss to Danville Area CC (8-6, 5-3).
Up next, Parkland travels to Godfrey, Ill., for another MWAC doubleheader against Lewis & Clark CC on Friday, April 9. Game times are 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
Game 1: No. 14 Parkland- 13, Danville Area- 6 (7 innings)
With runs scored in every inning, Parkland never trailed, leading 4-2 after one, 5-3 after three, 7-4 after four, and 10-5 after six. The Cobras added three more in the seventh, and Danville was unable to rally in the bottom half, only scoring one.
Lizzy Davis (3-4, 2B, 2 RBI) and
Isabel Shafer (3-5, 3B, 2 RBI) each had three hits and a couple of RBIs. Four Cobras, including
Casy Mandrell (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI),
Reagan Cheely (2-5, 2B, 3 RBI),
Sydney Eichelberger (2-2), and
Summer Johnson (2-5, 2B), had a pair of hits, while
Anna Walker (1-3, 2B, RBI) chipped in with a run-scoring double.
Chayse Ramey (13-1) led the Cobras to victory on the rubber. She lasted seven innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out seven.
Game 2: No. 14 Parkland- 4, Danville Area- 12 (6 innings)
Parkland scored one run in the first when
Anna Walker (2-3, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI) hit a triple, knocking in
Reagan Cheely, but the Cobras quickly fell behind when DACC pushed across four in the second.
In the top of the third, Parkland got two back on a Walker double and a
Casy Mandrell (1-2, RBI) single. The Jaguars reciprocated with two of their own in the bottom half, and they added two more in the fourth inning, taking an 8-3 lead.
In the fifth,
Lizzy Davis (1-2, RBI) hit a run-scoring single, but the Jaguars matched it in their half and then added 3 in the sixth to end the game early.
Isabel Shafer (1-3, 2B),
Summer Johnson (1-3, 2B), and
Sydney Eichelberger (1-3) each added a hit for the Cobras, who were outhit by Danville Area, 7-11. Parkland also committed 10 errors in the game.
Josie Birch (6-2) took the loss for Parkland. She lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 hits and 4 earned runs with no walks.
