No. 13 Cobras Baseball Picks Up Win Over Kankakee

Trailed by two after five innings

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 13 Parkland College Baseball (31-13) trailed through five innings but ultimately came out on top, 8-6, in a nine-inning contest with Kankakee CC (34-17).
 
Kankakee was in control through the first section of the game, leading 1-0 after three innings, 3-0 after four, and 3-1 after five.
 
In the sixth, sparked by a Tyler Grigalis (1-1, 2B, 3 RBI) two-run double, Parkland scored three and took its first lead, 4-3.
 
Both teams added two runs in the seventh, and the Cavaliers added one more in the top of the eighth, tying the score at 6-6.
 
In the bottom of the eighth, the Cobras plated two to take an 8-6 lead. The Parkland defense then held in the ninth, sealing the win.
 
Both teams produced eight hits in the game. Additional offensive highlights for the Cobras came from Nick Gregory (2-5), who had an RBI-double, and Jackson Blemler, who hit a home run and drew three of Parkland's 15 walks.
 
Jack Young (1-1) pitched two innings and earned the win for Parkland. He allowed one hit and one walk, preventing any runs, while striking out two. Additional work on the mound came from Danny Wizceb (3.2 IP, 3R, 1 ER, 4 Ks, 4 H, 2 BB), Brennan Dolwick (2.1 IP, 1 ER, 4 Ks, 2 H, 3 BB), and CJ Lewis (1 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 1 BB).
 
Up next, the Cobras will play their final regular-season series, a 4-game MWAC matchup against Heartland CC. Games one and two will be in Champaign, Ill., on Friday, May 14. Games three and four will be in Normal, Ill., on Saturday, May 15. The first pitch for each doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
