CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland College Women's Soccer (1-3-2, 1-2-0 MWAC) picked up an exciting MWAC win over Lincoln Land (0-5-1, 0-2-1), scoring a goal in the closing minutes to win, 2-1.
Halftime was looming, and it seemed neither the Cobras nor the Loggers would score in the first period, but in the 43rd minute, Parkland's
Maddy Wade sent a pass to
Jamie Seibert who put it past the Lincoln Land keeper and opened up the scoring.
The Cobras were working for a shutout, but in the 77th minute, the Loggers got one past Parkland's defense and goalkeeper
Michelle Miller, tying the match at 1 apiece. Then, as the closing minutes were ticking away, Seibert found
Izzy Fritz on a breakaway, and the resulting goal, in the 88th minute, proved to be the game-winner for the Cobras.
Miller ended up with seven saves to preserve the Parkland victory.
"I am very pleased with how we played today," expressed Interim Head Coach
Dan Vogelsang. "The past week we have been playing our best soccer all season, and it was just a matter of time before we were going to get our first win. I kept reminding our players that we are on the upswing and this is the perfect time to be playing our best soccer since district playoffs start next week. I am so proud of how far this team has come this season."
Up next, the Cobras travel to East Peoria, Ill., for an MWAC match against Illinois Central College on Thursday, May 6, at 4:00 pm.
