EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Parkland College Women's Soccer (1-3-3) scored early but (DI) Illinois Central College (4-2-1) scored late, and the two teams settled for a 1-1 draw.
Parkland's
Izzy Fritz scored the opening goal, just 26 seconds into the match, when
Maddy Wade hit a cross to
Jamie Seibert, who in turn touched it over to Fritz. The Cobras looked to build on the lead throughout the match, but, with only six minutes showing on the game clock, Illinois Central found the back of the net to level the score. Two overtime periods were played, but neither team could produce a game-winning goal.
Parkland's
Michelle Miller made 18 saves in goal, 8 after regulation, to preserve the tie.
"I am pleased with the result tonight," stated Interim Head Coach
Dan Vogelsang. "This team is so close to the break through and taking a big win. We just finished a 2-week stretch with no loses and that shows we are playing the best soccer we have all year. This is a different team from the start of the season, and I can see their confidence growing. I am so proud how far this team has come."
Up next, the Cobras will be in Champaign, Ill., for a match against No. 6 Southwestern Illinois College on Sunday, May 9, at 2:00 pm.
