SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – No. 9 Parkland College Baseball (29-12, 20-6 MWAC) suffered two setbacks, 9-13, and 3-6, to MWAC-leading Lincoln Land CC (40-9, 27-3) in a late Friday night doubleheader.
Up next, the Cobras will return to Champaign, Ill., to play games 3 and 4 of the 4-game MWAC series with No. 4 Lincoln Land CC on Sunday, May 9. The first pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
Game 1: #9 Parkland- 9, #4 Lincoln Land- 13 (9 innings)
Lincoln Land scored 5 in the bottom of the third, but Parkland answered with 2 in the fourth, 1 in the sixth, and 4 in the top of the seventh to take the lead, 7-5.
The Loggers got 1 back in the bottom half of the seventh, but then exploded for 7 runs in the eighth to regain the lead, 13-7.
The Cobras managed 2 runs in the top of the ninth, cutting the lead to 4, but could not extend the game.
Cole Evans (2-4, 2 HR, 5 RBI) hit two home runs for Parkland, while
Zyon Avery (2-4, HR, 2 RBI) and
Hogan McIntosh (1-5, 2B, 2 RBI) each contributed a pair of RBIs.
Jack Young (0-1) took the loss for the Cobras. He threw one inning, giving up five runs (five earned) on two hits and two walks, striking out one.
Kyle Brown (6.1 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 9 Ks) started the game, and
Reece Rodabaugh (.2 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB) provided relief from the bullpen.
Game 2: # 9 Parkland- 3, #4 Lincoln Land- 6 (7 innings)
Lincoln Land scored 1 in the first, and Parkland tied it with 1 in the third.
The Loggers took a 2-1 lead in the fifth, but the Cobras scored 2 in the top of the sixth to take their first lead of the game, 3-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, Lincoln Land answered with 4 runs, taking a 3-run lead, which it held through the seventh.
Parkland scored its runs on a 2-run home run by
Jackson Blemler and a double by
Nicholas Fazzari.
Nick Gregory and
Hogan McIntosh each contributed a single.
Jay Schueler (4-3) pitched a complete game, taking the loss for Parkland. He allowed six runs (1 earned) on four hits and six walks, striking out seven.
