CANTON, Ill. – The No. 1 Parkland College volleyball team (13-0, 1-0) competed in its first Mid-West Athletic Conference match of the season against Spoon River College (4-4, 0-1) and came away with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-13) victory.
Sophie Young (35 assists) set up an offensive attack led by
Halle Everett (11 kills) and
Arika Richardson (8 kills, 6 blocks).
Kayla Brandon (2 aces, 20 digs) and
Josie Hess (2 aces, 13 digs) anchored the back line, and each also had a pair of aces. The defensive front was controlled by
Kat Blase (6 kills, 8 blocks), Richardson, and
Jayden Sortor (6 kills, 3 blocks).
Up next, Parkland travels to Fort Dodge, Iowa, for the Iowa Central Tournament on Friday and Saturday, September 3 & 4. Among the four teams the Cobras will face are No. 2 Iowa Central CC and No. 11 Hawkeye CC.
