No. 9 Cobras Get Back on Track with 3-0 Win Over St. Louis CC

Yamato Kline scores twice

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 9 Parkland College men's soccer team won a very competitive game against St. Louis Community College Saturday afternoon. The Cobras (4-1-1) scored three in the second half and kept a clean sheet despite St. Louis' (0-6-1) best efforts.

"St. Louis has been on the wrong end of a lot of scores, but we knew they were going to be a good team," said Coach Sikora said after the game. Sikora was pleased with his team's defensive effort in the second half, saying, "I don't care how many goals we score, but if we cant pressure them into giving the ball back then were going to have a long day and the guys did it."

Scoring Summary
Parkland Goal: Jonathon Velasquez 60' (Assisted by Eikichi Saito)
Parkland Goal: Yamato Kline 70' (Assisted by Parker Theobald)
Parkland Goal: Yamato Kline 83' (Assisted by Mikey Garza)

Yamato Kline led the team with two goals on three shots on target. Matteo Gigliozzi led the Cobras with two saves, but he had to be replaced in the 70th minute after an injury.

Sikora did take away a few things from Saturday's game, saying, "Some of the new guys, especially, they got to understand that it's not about talent, it's about the defensive effort… You got to grind your way through a lot of these games week after week. You want to learn lessons when you lose but I like learning lessons when we win too."
