Women’s Soccer Gets First Win of Season

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland College women's soccer team picked up win number one on the season against Elgin CC.

"This was a great win today for our team," expressed Head Coach Dan Vogelsang.  "It's been a difficult start to our season, playing a schedule that included the No. 1 and No. 8 teams in the national rankings. I am so proud of the effort this team displayed today."

The Cobras (1-3-0) scored one in the first half and then added what was the game-winning goal – a header off a corner kick – with only twelve minutes remaining in the contest. The Spartans (0-2-0) put one in with eight minutes remaining, cutting the lead to 2-1, but Parkland tacked on one more just before the final buzzer.

Scoring Summary
38' PC – Izzy Fritz (Bridget DeLorenzo)
78' PC – Sidney Gagnon
82' (Elgin)
88' PC – Caris White (Sidney Gagnon)

Parkland had 18 shots in the match, 12 of which were on goal. Elgin got off nine shots. Parkland goalkeeper Whitney Michanicou saved six of Elgin's seven shots on goal.

"This team hasn't let the beginning of the season affect them," added Vogelsang. They continue to work hard in practice, and team morale has remained high. Our three captains - Allie Scally, Whitney Michanicou, and Rebecca Owen – have played a huge part in keeping this team focused and not losing site of what it can achieve. It's nice to see their hard work pay off as this team continues to get better every game."
