Cobras Win 92-64, Advance in NJCAA Tournament Consolation Bracket

The Cobras will take on Allen County in the next round

Box Score DANVILLE, Ill. – The Parkland men's basketball team played a complete game in their second game at the NJCAA National Tournament, as No. 13 seeded Cobras defeated the No. 12 seed Scottsdale Community College 92-64 in the Consolation Bracket on Thursday. The Cobras challenged the Fighting Artichokes' high-powered offense all afternoon and Parkland got into a groove offensively in the win. Marcus led all scorers with 20 points off the bench for the Cobras and A'Kieon Gill went 3-6 from beyond the arc as Parkland advances to play Allen County on Friday in the next round of the consolation bracket.

"All the offense that we didn't have on Tuesday decided to show up on Thursday," head coach Anthony Figueroa joked after the win. "Contributions from eight to nine guys really helped us on the offensive end, and then defensively we dedicated ourselves to trying to stop their two guards… Really it was a total team effort."

The Cobras (22-7) started off playing strong defense and midway through the first half, Parkland led 24-15 after a Josh Rivers (16 points, 5 assists, 3 steals) breakaway dunk caused Scottsdale Community College to burn a timeout. The Cobras went on an 18-5 run over the next four minutes, and they led The Fighting Artichokes (19-13) 42-20 with 3:44 to go in the first. Parkland led 48-26 at the break, their largest halftime lead since February 14th against Illinois Central.
The second half saw the Cobras maintain their lead early. Parkland led 64-41 at the first media timeout with 12:37 remaining, and the Cobras still led by 19 at the second media break with just over six minutes to go. Scottsdale came into Thursday's game averaging 91 points per game, but Parkland's defense played hard all afternoon to keep the Artichokes at bay. The Cobras ended the game on a 14-5 run and Parkland coasted to the 92-64 win. The 28-point win is Parklands' largest since January 22nd at home against Lincoln Land Community College. Freshman Jordan Jenkins (8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists) stepped up off the bench in the win for the Cobras.
