NORMAL, Ill. – The Parkland College golf team began their 2022 campaign with a second place finish at the Heartland Invite on Monday, August 29th. The Cobras posted a two-round team score of 588 (+20) at the par-71 Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Illinois, one-stroke behind the hosts, 8th-ranked Heartland Community College (587, +19). All nine participating Parkland golfers finished in the top 25, with seven finishing tied for 9th or better.
 
The fourth-ranked Cobras started the day on top, holding a four-stroke lead after 18 holes of play, but a couple of Heartland Community College golfers caught fire in the second round of the day, carrying the Hawks to a one-stroke victory down the stretch. Returning NJCAA DII First Team All-American Dain Richie led the way for the Cobras individually, finishing in second place with a score of 143 (+1), eight strokes behind winner Mason Minkel of Heartland. Freshmen Zarak Curley, who competed individually, and Lucas Park medaled in their Parkland College debuts as the pair tied for third with a two-round score of 145 (+3). Freshmen Jack Sciaudone competed as an individual and placed 6th after a 149 (+7) on Monday and sophomore Roo Fenwick finished in 7th with a score of 150 (+8). Freshmen Michael Addie also had a strong debut competing as an individual, shooting a 151 (+9) to finish 8th, one stroke in front of sophomore Kegan Niles, whose score of 152 (+10) put him in a four-way tie for 9th.
 
Up next, the Cobras will be competing in the Red Tail Run Challenge on Friday, September 2nd at the Red Tail Run in Decatur.
