No. 2 Parkland Golf Takes Home 5th Place at the Players Club Invitational

Parkland College was the only two-year school at the invitational

YORKTOWN, Ind. – The Parkland College golf team finished in fifth place at the Players Club Invitational on Tuesday, September 13th. The Cobras combined for a three-round score of 891 (+27) at the par-72 Players Club at Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Indiana over the course of two days. Parkland College was the highest-placing NJCAA school at the Players Club, competing against all four-year universities. Returning All-American Dain Richie led the way for the Cobras, placing T11 after firing a 220 (+4) over the three rounds in Yorktown, while sophomore Kegan Niles, who competed individually, finished in a tie for 6th with a score of 218 (+2).

"It was a good tournament to play against all four-year universities to see where we stack up," Parkland College head coach Corbin Sebens explained after the invitational. "This event showed us what our weaknesses are, and we will get back to work tomorrow and continue building."

The Cobras placed themselves firmly in the mix of the Players Club Invitational after two solid rounds in tough scoring conditions on Monday. Parkland golfers Dain Richie and freshman Michael Addie both shot an identical 146 after the two Monday rounds, scoring a 75 in round one before bouncing back with 1-under par rounds of 71 in the second round of the day to keep the Cobras in the top five. On Tuesday, the team just could not build enough momentum to move either Lawrence Tech or Indiana Wesleyan, the two four-year schools in front of Parkland, and the Cobras remained in fifth place through the finish. Sophomore Roo Fenwick continued to be a model of consistency across the invitational as the Scottish golfer fired a three-round score of 222 (+6) and tied with Addie and four other players for 16th. Sophomore Kegan Niles competed individually at the invitational, shooting a total score of 218 (+2) and finishing in a tie for 6th. Missouri transfer Matthew Barker (231, +15) and freshman Lucas Park (232, +16) rounded out the scoring for the Cobras, placing in 44th and a tie for 45th, respectively.
