No. 4 Cobras Win the ICC Red Tail Run 36 Tournament

Three Parkland golfers shoot under par in the win

DECATUR, Ill. – The Parkland College golf team took home their first victory of the season on Friday, September 2nd, winning the ICC Red Tail Run 36 with a team score of 566 (-10). The Cobras led by five strokes over 8th-ranked Heartland Community College after 18 holes at the par-72 Red Tail Run in Decatur, Illinois, before extending their lead in the second half, winning by eight strokes over the Hawks. All six Parkland College golfers finished in the top 15 on Friday.

"I am proud of the way we responded today," Parkland College head coach Corbin Sebens said after the win. "We struggled with the finish, but it was enough to get the job done. Having three guys finish in the top six shows the consistency we had all day. There is a lot we have to get better at, and we can build from this."

The fourth-ranked Cobras put together an opening round of 286, led by sophomore Missouri transfer Matthew Barker's 3-under-par round of 69. Sophomore Roo Fenwick and freshman Lucas Park sat one stroke behind after shooting a 70 and returning NJCAA DII First Team All-American Dain Richie began his Friday with a 1-under round of 71. In the second round, Parkland College looked to build on its one-stroke lead over No. 8 Heartland Community College. Freshman Zarak Curley recovered from his 78 in the first round with a 1-under 71 in round two. Curley's second round 71 was matched only by Roo Fenwick, who finished in a tie for 4th place with teammate Matthew Barker as both sophomores finish with a score of 141 (-3). Fellow sophomore Dain Richie placed 6th after a second round of 72 gave the New Berlin native a final score of 143 (-1). Freshman Michael Addie placed in the top 10 for the second tournament in a row after putting in a consistent performance on Friday, shooting a 72 and 73 for a final score of 145 (+1). After a stellar opening round, Lucas Park fired a 77 in the second round to finish in a tie for 12th place while Zarak Curley's final score of 149 placed him in a tie for 15th.

Up next, the Cobras have a little time off before competing at the two-day, Player's Club Invitational in Yorktown, Indiana. The invitational, hosted by Taylor University, begins on Monday, September 12th.
