Cobras Win 95-67 at Home Against Glen Oaks Community College

Parkland improves to 5-1 at home this season

Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland College men's basketball team hit the ground running in the new year as the Cobras defeated Glen Oaks Community College, 95-67, on Saturday, January 7th. The Cobras were locked in offensively against the Vikings, shooting over 55 percent (36-65) from the field and over 54 percent (17-22) from beyond the arc. Freshman Jabryn Anderson (21 points) came off the bench to lead the Cobras in scoring, while his high school teammate, Brylan Phillps, recorded a game-high six assists in the win. First-year head coach John Bowler got a big lift from his bench on Saturday, as they outscored the Glen Oaks bench 51-20 on Saturday in a rematch of the Cobras' 82-74 win over the Vikings back in December.

"I'm really excited and really happy about the way we came out and played today," head coach John Bowler said after the game. "I think we're learning how to play together, and I think this game really shows our growth from the beginning of the year."

The Cobras (7-5) displayed a balanced attack early, as all five starters got on the board in the first six minutes, and Parkland led 15-8 with 14:05 remaining in the first half. The Vikings (6-9) struggled with turnovers in the first half, coughing the ball up 14 times, and the Cobras took advantage, outscoring their opponents 17-4 off turnovers. Parkland closed the first half on a 14-6 run, going into halftime leading Glen Oaks 48-28. In the second half, the Cobras extended their lead quickly, taking a 57-30 lead with 17:04 on the clock and forcing an early Vikings' timeout. Both offenses flashed the ability to knock down shots, as the two teams shot over 50 percent from the field in the second half, but the Cobras maintained their advantage. Sophomore Clovis Gallon Jr. dropped nine points in the second half off the bench, and with 5:26 to go, the Williston State transfer put Parkland up 88-50, its largest lead of the game. In the end, the Cobras cruised to a 95-67 win, their seventh straight win.

"I think being consistent and being able to play the way we played today, every game, for a full forty minutes, is the consistency we need when we talk about our goals and what we want to do as a team," Bowler concluded.
