No. 2 Cobras Win Seventh Straight M-WAC Conference Championship

Three Cobras finish in the top three to earn All-Conference honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The No. 2 ranked Parkland College golf team continued its conference supremacy with a seventh straight Mid-West Athletic Conference title on Monday, October 2. The Cobras combined for a team score of 613 (+37) over two rounds at the par-72 Crestwicke Country Club in Bloomington, Illinois, defeating second-place Danville Area Community College 629 (+53) 16 strokes. Parkland led by four after shooting a 311 (+23) in round one, and the Cobras followed that up with a 302 (+14) round two in the win.

Sophomore Jack Sciaudone won the individual title with a two-round score of 151 (+7), while freshman Jason Runbom (152, +8) ended up one shot behind in second place, and sophomore Lucas Park (153, +9) finished in a four-way tie for third. All three Cobras earned All-Conference honors with their top-5 finishes. Parkland Freshman Juan Besoain (158, +14) also finished in a tie for 12th, and freshman Will Ross (162, +18) placed 18th on Monday.

"Today was a total team effort," Parkland College head coach Corbin Sebens said after the win. "Two days ago, we didn't even have enough players to field a team due to injuries and illness, and the boys played with an incredible amount of guts today to win our seventh straight conference title. I couldn't be more proud of Jack for getting his first win."

"Having three guys finish in the top three to earn All-Conference was huge to get us the win," Sebens added. "Today was a great learning experience for us with our backs against the wall and facing adversity all day, and we kept fighting."

After the tournament, Sebens was named the 2023 M-WAC Coach of the Year for the ninth time in his career at Parkland College.

Up next, the Cobras enter the off-season ranked No. 2 in the Bushnell/Golfweek NJCAA DII Coaches Poll, with the spring season set to begin in late March.
