CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 4 Parkland College men's basketball team continued its strong start to the season with a 97-66 win versus Wabash College JV on Thursday, November 30. The Cobras (10-0) shared the basketball well against the Little Giants, recording 24 assists and just eight turnovers in the win. Parkland had no trouble making shots on Thursday night, shooting 43-73 (59%) from the field. Sophomore Isaac Mapson III led all scorers with 20 points, and sophomore
Brylan Phillips produced a team-high 10 assists as the Cobras improved to 10-0, their best start since the 2018-2019 season (11-0).
"The team did a great job of sharing the ball and getting to the paint," Parkland College assistant coach
Coleco Buie said after the win. "Whenever we attack the paint, we look so much better than we do when we settle for threes."
Parkland jumped out to an early 21-16 lead when Wabash called its first timeout with 15:32 on the clock in the first half. The Cobras extended their lead with a 10-4 run, forcing another Little Giants timeout with 12:00 left in the first half. The visitors trimmed the deficit to 38-30 with just over five minutes to go, but Parkland battled back to close the half strong and lead 51-40 at halftime. The Cobra offense exploded early in the second half, quickly building a 20-point lead under five minutes in - and Parkland led 75-48 with 13:16 remaining. The Little Giants went cold from three in the second half, going 1-12 from beyond the arc, and the Cobras led 85-64 with 5:47 left following a timeout. Parkland outscored Wabash JV 76-26 in the paint as the Cobras controlled the pace and closed out the 97-66 win.
