No. 14 Parkland Men’s Basketball Wins Home Opener 114-64

The Cobras outpace the Panthers to improve to 3-0

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 14 Parkland College men's basketball team showed out in the first home game of the season on Monday, November 6, defeating Greenville University JV 114-64 in a fast-paced contest. The Cobras (3-0) forced 29 turnovers against the Panthers at the Donald C. Dodds Jr. Athletic Complex, holding the visitors to 8-31 (26%) from three in their third straight win to start the season. Sophomore guard Jabryn Anderson led all scorers with 22 points, and sophomore Chandler Jackson recorded 10 rebounds and four assists off the bench.

"What I liked was the ability to guard," head coach John Bowler said after the win. "That's a really good three-point shooting team; we held them to 64 points, 16 in the first half. That's a positive sign."

"We have to come ready to play from the jump," Bowler continued. "We have to bring it from the beginning all the way through the end. I think when we do that, we're going to be really hard to beat."

The Cobras took control early with a 14-0 run in the first half that put them up 23-10 with 9:08 left, forcing a Panther timeout. Parkland outscored Greenville 23-0 off turnovers in the first half, and the Cobras led 44-16 at halftime. Both offenses picked up the pace in the second half, but another big Parkland run resulted in a Greenville timeout, trailing 74-33 with 11:40 remaining. Sophomore Ken Sallee energized the Cobras in the second half, scoring 12 and throwing down a thunderous dunk to give Parkland an 85-37 lead with 9:29 on the clock. The Cobras outrebounded the Panthers 47-39 and tallied 26 assists on their way to a 114-64 win.
