CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 3 Parkland College women's basketball team picked up another home win on Wednesday, December 6, defeating Governors State University JV 97-36. The Cobras (10-0) never trailed the Jaguars on Wednesday night, outrebounding the visitors 60-9 in the win. The Parkland defense held Governors State to 7-54 (13%) from the field, and sophomore
Alyssa Cole (25 points, 13 rebounds) led the offense, recording her 7th double-double of the season. Freshman guard
Megan Janson dropped a season-high 11 assists as the Cobras shot 43-72 (60%) and won their 10th straight game to open the season.
"I like this team's resiliency. These girls just keep fighting and keep fighting, and that's what we teach them to do in practice," head coach Jean Demosthenes said of his team's 10-0 start. "Even when things aren't going your way, you still have to go out and fight, and we're doing that."
"I think our bench is improving," Demosthenes added. "They're starting to get comfortable, and we just have to continue to trust that they are going to do what we ask them to."
The Cobras opened the game with a quick 6-0 run, forcing an early Jaguar timeout, and Parkland led 29-7 after a fast first quarter. Governors State trimmed the deficit to 35-14 with just under seven minutes until halftime, but Parkland closed the half on a 14-0 run to go into the break with a 55-17 lead. The Cobras outscored the Jaguars 44-4 in the paint in the first half, outrebounding the visitors 28-6. Parkland extended its lead quickly in the second half with another strong start, outscoring Governors State 18-6 in the third quarter. Sophomore
Luka Wouters led all second-half scorers with eight points, going 2-3 from beyond the arc as Parkland played every active player on its way to the 97-36 win.
