BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 5 ranked Parkland College golf team sits atop the leaderboard after two rounds at the NJCAA Region 24 Championship on Monday, May 1st. The Cobras shot a combined team score of 594 (+26), leading by 37 strokes after day one at the par-71 Pfau Course at Indiana University. Individually, freshman
Zarak Curley (144, +2) leads the way in first place, with sophomores
Roo Fenwick (145, +3) and
Dain Richie (149, +7) right behind. All five Cobra golfers currently sit in the top 10. The team is looking to advance to its sixth consecutive NJCAA National Tournament and its fourth Region 24 title under head coach
Corbin Sebens.
"Today was a solid day overall and a total team effort," Sebens said after his team's first two rounds. "The course is already hard. When you add rain, cold, and 40 mile-per-hour winds, (the course) showed its teeth today."
"We cannot be satisfied," Sebens continued, "Tomorrow is a new day. We have to stick to our game plan, control what we can control, and stay locked in."
"Zarak, Roo, and Dain carried us today," Sebens acknowledged. "Those three guys played really good golf all day. Having those three in the top three, competing for the individual title shows the level of play from them today."
Up next, Parkland will play the final round of the NJCAA Central District Championship tomorrow, May 2nd, at the Pfau Course at Indiana University. The Cobras are scheduled to tee off for the third round at 10:10 AM.
