BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 5 ranked Parkland College golf team finished strong in round three of the NJCAA Region 24 Championship on Tuesday, May 2nd, winning the tournament by 59 strokes with a team score of 903 (+51). The Cobras secured their sixth tournament win of the season with a third-round score of 309 (+25) at the par-71 Pfau Course at Indiana University, and sophomore
Roo Fenwick came from one-stroke back to win the tournament with a score of 219 (+6). Fellow Cobras
Zarak Curley and
Dain Richie tied for second place after shooting a three-round score of 226 (+13), and
Michael Addie (233, +20) finished in fifth place to round out Parkland's individual scores.
Â
In addition to the Region 24 title, Parkland golfers
Roo Fenwick,
Dain Richie,
Zarak Curley, and
Michael Addie earned All-Region honors for their performances this week, with Fenwick winning Region 24 Player of the Year and head coach
Corbin Sebens winning Region 24 Coach of the Year. The Cobras now advance to their sixth straight NJCAA National Tournament after their fourth Region 24 title under Sebens.
"The last two days were a total team effort," Sebens said after his team's Region 24 Championship win. "Having four guys finish in the top five shows the depth of our team, and I am so proud of these guys for the fight and mental toughness they displayed on a very difficult course in brutal conditions. These guys were not satisfied with a large lead, kept their heads down, focused on the goal, and finished the job."
"I could not be more proud of Roo for what he did the last two days," Sebens continued. "Those three rounds he played, in those conditions, on that golf course were the best three rounds I have ever seen."
"Having three guys competing for the individual title was fun to watch. They wanted to beat each other, but also they wanted each other to win. That is what you love to see as a coach," Sebens proudly said.
Â
Up next, the Cobras will compete at the NJCAA DII National Championships at the par-72 Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana. The four-round tournament runs from Tuesday, May 23rd, to Friday, May 26th.
