MATTOON, Ill. – The No. 20 Parkland College Baseball team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, February 10, driving in seven runs in the 5th inning to defeat St. Louis Community College 13-3 at Lake Land College. The Cobras (1-2) erased an early 1-0 deficit, scoring four runs in the bottom of the 2nd, but the Archers trimmed the lead to 6-3 heading into the bottom of the 5th. Parkland then batted around the order, with sophomore
Charlie Marisca (2-3, 2B, RBI, R, BB) singling in his first at bat and driving in the game-ending run with an RBI double in his second. Freshman starting pitcher
Jack Skidmore (4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 K, 3 BB) earned the win in his Parkland College debut, facing 18 batters in four innings of work.

Up next, the Cobras will travel to St. Louis on Saturday, February 17, for a doubleheader versus Jefferson College (MO). First pitch against the Vikings (0-0) is scheduled for noon at Maryville University.

The Cobras trailed 1-0 following a fielder's choice in the top of the 1st, but
Michael Carrano Jr. (1-2, HR, 2 R, BB) tied the game with a solo home run in the 2nd, the first of his career,
Jacob Filip (1-3, RBI, R) put Parkland in front with an RBI single, and
Ryan Snell (2-4, 3B, 2 RBI) lined a triple into centerfield to give the Cobras a 4-1 lead.

The Archers got one run back with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 4th, but the Cobras responded with two in the bottom half to push the lead to 6-2. In the 5th inning, St. Louis drove one last run in before the Parkland offense exploded for seven runs, ending the game 13-3 in five innings.

Scott Newman (3-4, 3B, 2 RBI, 3 R) led the team in hits, runs, and total bases in the win. Sophomores
Will Flanigan (2-3, 2 RBI, 2 R) and
Josh Outlaw (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI, R, SB) tied Newman and Snell with two RBI, and shortstop
Tylor Phommachanhom (1-3, 3B, 2 R) scored after advancing on a dropped third strike in the 7-run 5th inning.
