Box Score 2 POPLARVILLE, Miss. – The No. 20 Parkland College Baseball team went 1-1 against two ranked opponents on Friday, February 23, at Pearl River Community College. The Cobras (2-3) opened the day with a 9-5 loss to No. 11 South Arkansas College (8-7) before defeating hosts No. 3 Pearl River CC (13-4) in game two, 5-1.
"I'm really proud of the way these guys bounced back tonight after a slow start in game one," first-year head coach Zach Pych said on Friday. "Great win in an awesome environment, we will need to build off of it and keep the momentum rolling the rest of the weekend."
"Early on this season, inconsistency has been a killer for us. We showed tonight that when we fire on all cylinders, these guys are a lot of fun to watch!" Pych added.

Up next, Parkland takes on No. 11 South Arkansas College in a rematch tomorrow, February 24, at Pearl River Community College. First pitch against the Stars is scheduled for noon in Poplarville, Mississippi.

South Arkansas scored in the top of the 1st inning and quickly led 4-0 midway through the 2nd inning before sophomore
Josh Outlaw grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring
Luke Parmentier. The Stars stretched their lead to 8-1 with two home runs in the top of the 4th, but Outlaw (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI) drove Parmentier (2-4, 2 R) in with an RBI double in the bottom half to slow their roll. South Arkansas added one more run in the 5th, and Parkland couldn't overcome the deficit despite outhitting their opponent, falling 9-5 in game one.

Starting pitcher
Jack Skidmore (3.0 IP, 2 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) struck out six batters through three innings on Friday before
Gavin Parkerson (0-1) relieved him, earning the loss. Freshmen
Lane Lorton and
Cale Coursey also appeared in the loss.

Will Flanigan (1-2, HR) launched his second home run of the season in the bottom of the 7th, and sophomores
Ryan Snell (1-4, 2B, RBI) and
Jacob Filip (2-4, RBI) each drove in a run.

Michael Carrano Jr. (1-3, HR) crushed a home run over the right field fence in the 2nd – and
Will Flanigan (1-4, 3B, 2 RBI) smacked a 2-RBI triple into centerfield to give the Cobras an early 4-0 lead. Left fielder

Jacob Filip (BB, R) in the top of the 5th to add to the lead, but Pearl River got one back in the bottom half to close the gap.

On the mound, starter
Sam Bryan (1-1) earned the win after allowing just two hits in five innings of work, striking out 10. Sophomore John Cederburg (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER) replaced Bryan in the 6th inning, throwing two shutout innings to finish off the 5-1 win.
