CLERMONT, Fla. – The No. 1 Parkland College Softball team added two more wins over South Suburban College and Waubonsee Community College in The Spring Games on Sunday, March 12th. The Cobras (19-3) pitched an 8-0 shutout win against the Bulldogs (3-9) before coming from behind to win 5-3 over the Chiefs (3-4) in game two. Five different Cobas recorded an extra-base hit on Sunday, and sophomore pitcher
Karley Yergler (12-2) picked up two wins as Parkland extended its winning streak to 12 games in a row.

Up next, Parkland takes on Lakeland Community College and Lake Michigan College tomorrow, March 13th. First pitch versus the Lakers (0-5) is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. ET, with first pitch against the Red Hawks (3-1) to follow at 12:15 a.m. ET.

The Cobras struck right away with three runs in the top of the 1st inning, and freshman
Alisha Frederick (2-3, 3 RBI, R) added to the lead with a 2-RBI single in the 2nd to score
Maddie Reed (1-1, RBI, R) and
Mia Ruder (1-3, 2B, 2 R) and put Parkland up 5-0. Sophomore
Lexie Griffin (1-1, HR, BB) smacked an opposite-field solo home run to open the 3rd inning, and the Cobras drove in two more runs to extend the lead to 8-0.

Karley Yergler (2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 K, BB) was replaced by
Ryleigh Owens (3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 3 K, BB) in the 3rd inning, and Owens faced just 12 batters as Parkland completed the 8-0 shutout win over South Suburban.

Waubonsee got on the board first with a two-run home run in the top of the 1st inning, and Parkland trailed until the bottom of the 3rd when Alisha Fredrick (2-3, 2B, RBI) scored
Karley Yergler on a sacrifice fly, and
Emma Mason (1-3, RBI, BB) tied the game 2-2 with an RBI single up the third-base line. Yergler (2-3, HR, RBI, 2 R) gave the Cobras a 3-2 lead in the 4th after she hit her fifth home run of the year, but the Chiefs countered in the top of the 5th, driving in one run to tie the game back up.

Tori Thomas (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI) stepped up for Parkland in the bottom of the 5th, lifting a 2-RBI double out to center field to score
Lizzie Stiverson (1-3, R) and
Ellie Vetter (1-3, R), and the Cobras closed out the Chiefs to win 5-3.

Starting pitcher Vetter (4.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 11 K, 2 BB) faced 17 batters in four innings of work on Tuesday, striking out 11 before Yergler (3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 K) took over in the 5th inning, earning the win.
