No. 14 Parkland Sweeps Vincennes University

Adison Worthman leads the Cobras with a home run in each game

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 14 Parkland baseball won two games over Vincennes University (12-15) on Saturday, March 22. The Cobras took the regular season series 3-1 over Vincennes and improve to 14-7 on the season. 
 
No. 14 Parkland College 11, Vincennes University 1
The Trailblazers got on the board first in the 2nd inning, but a solo home run by Adison Worthman in the bottom of the inning tied the game 1-1. The Cobras drew multiple walks in the 2nd to put runners on base, and a John Shuey sacrifice fly and an Alex Schimmel groundout allowed two more runs to score. The Cobras did not allow the Trailblazers to score another run as they continued to add more of their own in the 4th and 6th innings to secure the 11-1 win in six innings. Mark Mennecke and Cody DelFavero had two hits each. 

Tyler Tylka (1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K) pitched four innings for the Cobras and earned the win, and Lane Lorton (2 BB, 4 K) pitched two innings, allowing no hits.

Parkland struck first in the second game, putting up two runs thanks to another Adison Worthman home run. Vincennes tied it 2-2 in the top of the 3rd, but the Cobras scored another three runs in the bottom half of the inning and held the Trailblazers for the rest of the game. Parkland continued to extend the lead, and a three-run home run from Nick Guidici in the 5th made it an 11-2 game. The Cobras tacked on one more run when Cody DelFavero was hit by a pitch, and Parkland closed out the Trailblazers 12-2 in five innings. Parkland had seven hits, led by Adison Worthman and Nick Guidici with two apiece. 

On the mound, Cale Coursey (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB) and Logan Gale (3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K) combined to stifle the Vincennes offense, only allowing two runs and four hits. Gale got the win for the Cobras. 

Up next, the Cobras play a home doubleheader versus Spoon River College (7-12) on Saturday, March 29. The first game is scheduled to start at 12:00 pm at the Parkland College Baseball Field.
