NORMAL, Ill. – The No. 24 ranked Parkland softball team earned two conference road wins at Heartland Community College (12-23-1) on Saturday, April 19. The Cobras improve to 32-12 on the season and 14-2 in conference play after defeating the Hawks 6-0 in game one and 8-4 in game two. The Cobras crushed another 20 hits in the doubleheader, and currently sit at 13th in the nation in hits with 470 this season.Â

Game 1: No. 24 Parkland College 6, Heartland Community College 0
The Cobras scored two in the top of the 1st inning thanks to back-to-back singles from
Lucy Fearday and
Lindsey Muskopf.
Abbey Horeis launched a solo home run in the 4th inning to extend the lead to 3-0, while
Claire Black went 3-for-4 at the plate, racking up two doubles and one RBI. The Cobras added three more runs in the 5th and 6th innings, and solid pitching from
Mya Brown (6.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K) and
Lucy Fearday (1.0 IP, 0 BB, 2 K) held the Hawks scoreless in seven innings.Â
Game 2: No. 24 Parkland College 8, Heartland Community College 4
Heartland got on the board first in the second game, but the Cobras quickly followed suit by scoring two runs of their own in the top of the 2nd inning. The Hawks pulled ahead 4-2 in the bottom of the 4th after the Cobras made two errors that allowed two runs to score, but
Ellie Lowe drove
Nicole Sinks home in the top of the 5th, which cut the lead to 4-3. Then, in a game-changing sixth inning, Parkland's offense roared to life. After loading the bases,
Nicole Sinks reached on an error that allowed two runs to score.
Lucy Fearday followed with a towering three-run homer to left field, her second of the season, giving the Cobras an 8–4 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Claire Black (3.2 IP, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB) started on the mound, surrendering four hits and striking out one.
Lucy Fearday (3.1 IP, 0 BB, 2 K) earned the win, allowing no hits and one run (zero earned).Â
Up next, the Cobras play a home doubleheader against Heartland Community College on Wednesday, April 23. The first game is scheduled for 2:00 pm at the Parkland College Softball Field.
