Parkland Men get big road win in battle of ranked rivals

The #10 Parkland Men pulled away midway in the second half Saturday as they defeated #15 Lincoln 81-72, giving them a sweep of their rival during the regular season.  The Cobras win, coupled with Danville's home lost today to John Wood, leaves DACC, John Wood, and Parkland all within a game of the top spot with four games to play.

The Lynx jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead but the Cobras fought back to lead by as many as seven and took a 40-35 lead into the halftime break. Jordache Mavunga was a big part of the Cobra first half success as he scored 12 points while Isaiah Curry added 6 points and 6 rebounds. Parkland shot a sizzling 65% (15-23), including 4-6 from behind the arc, and also made six free throws in the first half.  The game stayed in the 4-6 point range for the first eight minutes of the second half before PC started to string some defensive stops and in turn converted on the offensive end. Parkland would push their lead to as many as 19, at 65-46, before Lincoln would stage a big comeback. The Lynx would eventually get the PC lead to just four, but could get no closer as the Cobras combined stops and made free throws down the stretch to help secure the victory.

Mavunga was the leading scorer for PC on the night as he finished with 19 points including 7-10 at the line.  Marcus Latham added 15 points, Isaiah Curry tossed in 13 and grabbed 7 boards, while Quin Nottingham also scored 13.  Parkland shot 57.4% for the game and converted 23-35 from the line including 17-25 in the second half. PC also outrebounded LC 38-32 on the night. The win moves Parkland to (19-4 4-2) on the season while Lincoln falls to (19-5 2-4).  Parkland will be home for a pair of games this week as they will host Illinois Central at 7:30 Wednesday night and take on John Wood at 3:00 on Hall of Fame Saturday.  Lincoln will be on the road to Danville and Illinois Central.
