CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland College Athletics and Cobras Men's Basketball are proud to announce that
Tommy Makabu has committed to continue his athletic and academic careers with the Earlham Quakers. This past season he helped lead the Cobras to a 23-7 final record and a Central District Championship. Parkland earned a No. 10 seed in the NJCAA DII National Tournament, but the event was ultimately cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
"I just want to thank the Parkland coaching staff for making me a better player throughout my years," reflected Makabu. "I'm ready to start my new journey at Earlham, and learn more, and become the better player that I know I can be."
Makabu, from Champaign, Illinois, averaged 6.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game as a sophomore. He played in 56 games for Parkland over two seasons, starting 18.
"Tommy has been a fantastic representative of Parkland College and our program," stated Head Coach
Anthony Figueroa. "We are excited about his next step. His work ethic, positivity, and leadership are sure to be welcomed at Earlham."
Earlham competes at the NCAA Division III level and is a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletics Conference. The campus is located in Richmond, Indiana.
The Champaign Centennial alum scored 17 points in two different games, vs. National Park (11/1/19) and vs. Wilbur Wright (12/12/19).
Makabu is the son of Thomas Makabu and Mimi Nsliu. He received his degree in Business from Parkland in May, 2020.
