Cobras Control Aurora University JV, Win 102-61

Parkland picks up its first win of the season

Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland College men's basketball team found its groove offensively and cruised to a 102-61 win over Aurora University JV on Wednesday, November 23rd. The Cobras (1-5) shot over 60 percent from the field in the win, including a season-high 50 percent from behind the arc. Sophomore Clovis Gallon Jr. led all scorers with 18 points, and Decatur native Brylan Phillps tallied a game-high seven rebounds off the bench.
 
The Cobras took a 9-7 lead on a Clovis Gallon Jr. layup with 15:57 remaining in the first half and never looked back. Parkland's offense caught fire, and the team led 29-11 after back-to-back-to-back made threes from freshman Jared Hankins capped a 24-4 run. The Cobras led by as much as 27 in the first half and went into halftime up 52-27. Parkland opened the second half on a 7-0 run as the Cobras continued to control the game against the junior varsity Spartans. First-year head coach John Bowler's squad outscored Aurora 48-34 in the paint and the Cobras stretched their lead out to 42 with just under three minutes to go. Sophomore Sean Ealy came alive in the second half offensively, leading the way with 9 points in a full-team effort as the Cobras got the win over the Spartans, 102-61.
