SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Parkland College golf team placed third at the 18th Annual Pilot Spring Invitational this weekend. The Cobras posted a score of 613 (+37) at the two-day tournament hosted by the Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Indiana. Parkland College was the only two-year school competing in the tournament, defeating four-year universities such as Olivet Nazarene and St. Francis (Illinois). Individually, Kegan Niles led the way for the Cobras shooting a 151 (+7) to finish tied for sixth place.  
 
Parkland put themselves in a good position on Friday, finishing in a tie for 2nd after combining for a score of 303 (+15). The Cobras kept up their consistent play on Saturday with three golfers ending their second round with a final score of 77. Collectively, the team shot a 310 (+22) on the second day for a final score of 613 (+37), good for third place. Of the 48 golfers that competed, all five of Parkland's athletes finished in the top 25. 
 
Freshman Kegan Niles had the strongest outing of the five Cobras, finishing tied for sixth with a score of 151 (+7) after a two over par round of 74 on the first day and a 77 on the second. Joel Petersson (+8) and Alex White (+9) were not far behind Niles on the leaderboard, finishing tied for eighth and tied for 10th, respectively. Freshmen Roo Fenwick shot a 157 (+16) to finish T16 and newcomer Matthew Barker ended up T23 with a 160 (+16).  
 
Up next, Parkland will compete in the Take Back the Night Challenge in Decatur, Illinois next weekend. The two-day tournament will begin at Hickory Point Golf Course on Friday, April 22nd. Round two of the Take Back the Night Challenge will be held at Red Tail Run on Saturday, April 23rd.
