Cobras Finish Runner-Up at Cougar Spring Shootout

Three Cobras earn top-10 finish in tough conditions

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. —March 30, 2026—The Parkland College men's golf team delivered an impressive performance at the Cougar Spring Shootout, hosted by Illinois Central College on Monday, finishing 2nd overall out of 15 teams with a two-round score of 589 (+13).

The Cobras showcased their depth with three players finishing in the top 10, as Peter Slot, Leif Olson, and Ian VanEtten all tied for 8th place individually. Following a scorecard playoff, Slot and Olson earned All-Tournament Team honors, highlighting Parkland's strong showing in a competitive field.

Head Coach Nick Berger praised the team's effort, saying, "Very proud of everyone. This was a great team accomplishment and team effort. As we continue to focus on our process, this helps us boost confidence as we continue to compete. We battled very tough conditions today. Wind gusts of 30+ miles per hour and firm conditions made the course very difficult. With conditions like this it was crucial to focus on what you can control and stay mentally strong through a long 36 hole day."

The Cobras will look to build on their strong finish as they continue their spring season.

Up next, Parkland will travel to Old Hickory, Tennessee on April 6 to compete in the two-day Big Blue Intercollegiate, hosted by Tennessee State University.
