DECATUR, Ill. – The Parkland College golf team took care of business in the Take Back the Night Challenge this weekend, winning the tournament that featured 12 schools. The Cobras posted a score of 592 (+10) and were the only junior college team featured in the two-day tournament hosted by Millikin University. The Challenge took place at the Hickory Point Golf Course in Forsyth on Friday and the Red Tail Run Blue Course in Decatur on Saturday. Individually,
Kegan Niles led the way for the Cobras, winning the individual title by shooting a 145 (+1).Â

"I couldn't be more proud of the guys for battling very difficult conditions the last two days and finishing the regular season with a win," head coach
Corbin Sebens said after the tournament. "We knew (the course) was going to be playing tough with the wind and we accepted the challenge head-on and really battled. I am very excited for Kegan to pick up his first college win. We will use this momentum and continue to build and get ready for regionals."Â

Parkland led early in the Take Back the Night Challenge after posting a tournament-low score of 294 (+6) on Friday, nine strokes better than Nebraska Wesleyan in second place. The Cobras continued their solid play throughout the tournament as the team secured the victory by shooting 298 (+10) on Saturday for a final score of 592 (+16), 25 strokes better than second place finisher Carthage College. Â

Sophomore
Corey Neville set the pace on Friday, firing an even-par round of 72 to lead the competition after day one. Freshmen
Kegan Niles stepped up on Saturday for the Cobras, shooting a 71, the only under-par round of the tournament, to jump in front of teammates and competitors on his way to the first place finish. Niles (+1) finished just one stroke ahead of sophomore
Joel Petersson (+2) and five strokes ahead of freshmen
Roo Fenwick, who participated as an individual, and
Dain Richie (+6) who rounded out the top five. Neville (+7) finished 8th and
Alex White (+17) ended up tied for 34th. Parkland golfers
Matthew Barker (+12) and
Reece Tennison (+24) also competed as individuals, finishing 18th and T55 respectively. Â

Up next, Parkland will compete in the 2022 NJCAA Central District Championship at the Dalhousie Country Club in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on Monday, May 2nd and Tuesday, May 3rd.Â
