JOPLIN, Mo. – The Parkland College golf team remains in fifth place at the NJCAA Division II National Championship after the second round of the four-day tournament at the par-72 Twin Hill Country Club in Joplin, Missouri. The reigning-champion Cobras (599, +23) shot a combined score of 297 (+9) on Wednesday as the team now sits eight strokes behind the leader, South Mountain Community College (591, +15). Going into tomorrow's third round, Parkland is five shots ahead of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (604, +28) and two shots behind fourth place Glendale Community College (597, +21).
 
"We didn't make up any ground or lose any ground." Parkland head coach Corbin Sebens explained. "We haven't been taking care of the par 5s like we should, but there is still a lot of golf left and we need to continue to stay patient, stay confident and try to move up the leaderboard to give us a chance going into the last round."
 
The Cobras entered the day in 5th place and Parkland's overall consistent play kept them there after the second round. Sophomore Corey Neville (+4, T20) started out strong with a 1-under, 35 on the front nine en route to and even par 72 through 18 holes, the lowest round of the day for the Cobras. Sophomore Joel Petersson (+8, T32) birdied three holes on the front nine and finished with Parkland's second best round of 74. Freshman Dain Richie (+3, T16) remains the Cobras' lowest golfer through two rounds after shooting 3-over, 75 today. Scottish freshman Roo Fenwick (+9, T35) shot a 5-over 77 and sophomore Alex White bogeyed just one hole on the back nine on his way to a 4-over 76 in his first round of the tournament.
